Protected Landcsape Area (PLA) Kokořínsko – Macha’s Region was designated on 1st September 2014 as the newest PLA in the country. It is situated north of Prague at the boundary of Middle Bohemia and North Bohemia as it lies between the towns of Mělník and Česká Lípa. It consists of two noncontinuous areas: Kokořínsko in the south and Máchův kraj in the north. The area Kokořínsko, the original part of PLA, was designated as a protected area in 1976. Then in 2014 it was enlarged by an area called Macha’s Region (named after great Czech romantic poet Karel Hynek Mácha).
The highest point is Vlhošť peak (614 m) in the Liberec region; the lowest point is on alluvial plain of Liběchovka stream at Želízy (175 m) in Central Bohemia region.
